Hot Rods is the 5th video project between AAE Glass and Nathan Sandberg. In this educational lesson, Nathan will lead students through three projects that make use of glass rods from Bullseye as the primary design element. Along the way, he will dive deeper than ever before into dropouts and provide a very thorough explanation and demonstration of the process. Students will be guided through the fabrication of two slumped forms as well as a dropout vessel….or eight, entirely made of rods. From raw materials, to mold construction, to volume calculation and finishing, much of the information provided in this lesson can be applied to many other kiln-glass projects by simply scaling up, changing shapes and/or glasses. Once you have the tools you are only limited by your imagination! All handouts and firing schedules included.
