Only eight students will be admitted to this new and exclusive workshop. Students will leave with two full size sculptural, gallery worthy pieces along with a mini-block that will be hand polished to a crystal-like surface.
Learn the magical use and properties of Bullseye Billets as glass meets gravity in this exciting class. You will utilize kiln furniture and ramps to create a cascade of glass while being introduced to color mixing at the same time. Other skills include creating a contolled design in billet bars and using them in reconstruction with a strip work panel.
There will extensive coldworking in this workshop using a lap wheel, sandblaster, angle grinder and wet belt sander. Realizing that not everyone has this equipment at home, alternative coldworking methods will be demonstrated including the use of diamond hand pads and grinders. Did we mention you will also be creating your own stands for these pieces out of natural slate and rock?

Invaluable!! review by Susan Harrison on 1/2/2018
I was one of the lucky artists who took part in the inaugural version of this workshop in Spring 2017. The techniques that Tanya covers will challenge your understanding of latent imagery in warm glass. Each project involved a multitude of elements and processes that could be recombined and reimagined to create compositions of amazing complexity. The workshop will also expose you to a number of cold working techniques that, again, can be recombined for different effect. You will have a new appreciation for the behavior of glass under long hold times at forming temperature and the use of gravity to create the illusion of movement within the fabric of the glass.
As a member of a tightly juried artists' cooperative in Atlantic Canada, I had an opportunity to display some of the work that I did in the comfort of my own studio. My favorite comment (other than, "I'll take that.") was "How on earth do you get glass to do THAT???" In other words, you will be making compositions that are surprising, even shocking to the gallery visitor. You will have an opportunity to learn what it takes to create compositions that are unique, unexpected and challenging the limits of what we understand is possible in warm glass.
This is an invaluable learning experience. You will be challenged to take what you learn to 'the next level', your own personal level. Brava, Tanya!!
